Mangosong dominates round 1 of Motor Ace Motocross Series
Wao Lanao del Sur, Philippines (February 18, 2024) BM111 Yamaha Sec rider Bornok Mangosong dominates round 1 of the Motor Ace Motocross Series, sweeping the four races and getting the overall for both the Pro Open and Pro Lites categories in front of approximately 31 thousand fans. Kawasaki Motor PH-ACGR rider Terrence Napat held consistent positions to challenge Mangosong for the top spot, held second place, and finished second overall in both Pro categories.
Mangosong, the defending series champion and one of the veterans of the sport, shared the highlight of his weekend, where he worked his way through a mediocre start in the first moto of the Pro Open Class and sliced through the pack to win the ten-lap race. “Grabe lubak at alikabok ang layo ko pang 9th ako start…short race pa… Actually, I am blessed to win, kasi may mga nagsasabi na nananalo lang daw ako kapag walang malalakas na kalaban. So I thank God I got the chance to prove them wrong.”
Terrence Napat is the closest to challenging Mangosong; in the first Moto of the Pro Open, he got the early lead with team Rivera ace rider Mitch Rivera right in tow until Mangosong made a pass for the lead. He wasn’t satisfied with his performance but had a positive outlook on his race weekend. This is what he had to say in our post race interview:
“I’m not happy with 2nd but I’m not sad about it either. I believe every race is progress for myself whether I win or lose. When I was a rookie, I loved winning so much but I’m already at the point where I don’t care so much about winning or loosing. I’m focusing on training, discipline and performance and that’s it. I realized that attaching myself with winning too much will only bring unneccesary pressure for myself. After every race whether I win or lose, I just thank God I’m safe and I had the chance to do what I’m good at. There were a lot of reasons that was spoken on why I lost today. To me I lost because I was slow and that’s it, no reasons, I believe in owning your mistakes and eating your pride is the key to becoming a fast learner in this sport. I don’t know what my future in this sport helds but I’ll make sure that it’s gonna be the ride of my life.”
Mangosong gets the overall points lead in both classes, Napat secured second, Rivera got third in the Pro class and Baitit in the Pro Lites class. Motor Ace Motocross Round 2 is on March 24 in Talakag Bukidnon.
